Welfare Grants and Training Scholarships

Scientific research projects

Applications will be accepted for equine research projects from all UK veterinary schools, institutions and specialist private referral practices. Research must be non-invasive, ethically approved and must present a welfare case to The Trust’s Scientific Committee. Research projects have been supported for Strangles, Navicular, Sweet Itch, Colic, Ragwort Poisoning, Grass Sickness, Osteoarthritis, Cardiology, Equine Herpesvirus, Farriery, Dentistry, Laminitis and Recurrent Airway Obstruction. All Scientific Research projects go through a rigorous screening procedure.

They are initially previewed by our Scientific Committee who will nominate 2 UK reviewers and 1 overseas reviewer who are all experts in the field of research relating to the application. Once all independent scrutineers have submitted their comments the application is reviewed in detail by our Scientific Committee, they then make their recommendations to Committee of Management. All applicants will be informed of The Trust’s decision by November and it is anticipated that all projects should commence by the forthcoming April.

Application forms will be available from January each year with a deadline date for submission of 1st May the following year.
